Greetings from ASCAT Steering Committee and Partners! We are excited about the opportunity to invite you to this year’s Annual Scientific Sickle Cell & Thalassaemia Conference organised jointly with European Hematology Association (EHA) and British Society of Haematology (BSH); supported by Eurobloodnet (EBN) and others running a Patient group, all together to stimulate the efforts that continue to shape the future for Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia. This year’s conference takes place at the historic County Hall, London opposite the Houses of Parliament and ‘Big Ben’ with generous space for academic presentations and networking. The theme for our meeting is ‘Therapeutic Strategies for Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia: Time to Consider A Multi-Modal & Personalised Approach’ in recognition of the changing landscape for the management of Haemoglobinopathies. We are fully aware of the fact these new developments bring with them complex issues in decision making for patients and their families and the challenge of access to therapies It is therefore necessary to provide the platform for service providers, service users and policy-makers to engage in honest discussion to develop strategies for efficient and effective interventions across the world. Our constituency is every patient everywhere and, in all circumstances, to improve outcomes and increase access. This year will see new initiatives in addition to our quality filled programme. We will be hosting our first ever ‘Corporate Day’ on Wednesday 25th October that will include Sponsored Symposia, Lectures featuring key authors of the Lancet Commission and a Sickle Cell Disease in Sub-Saharan Africa Book Launch! Our three-day conference from Thursday 26th to Saturday 28th October will include Abstracts and Poster Presentations, Meet the Expert Sessions, Patients Forum, Debate Sessions and Plenary Sessions on topics such as Newborn Screening, End Organ Complications in Haemoglobinisation, Psychosocial and Counselling in Care. Back by popular demand after raising some great funds to support some excellent causes, the Charity Ball will be taking place again this year! Abstract Submission along with Conference Registration is opening this April to allow time for greater participation across the world. Looking forward to seeing you all soon!
